Ingredients
1 loaf French bread, cut into approximately 18 slices
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
150 g blue cheese, crumbled or cut into small pieces
½ cup walnut halves and pieces, roughly chopped
3 tablespoons pure maple syrup
Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Directions

Recipe Introduction: These crisp, savoury crostini pair creamy blue cheese with toasted walnuts and a touch of pure maple syrup. Easy to prepare and full of contrasting flavours and textures, they make an elegant appetizer for holiday entertaining, casual gatherings or a cozy evening at home.

Step 1: Preheat the oven to 400°F.
Step 2: Arrange the bread slices in a single layer on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
Step 3: Lightly brush the tops of the bread slices with olive oil.
Step 4: Bake for 5 to 7 minutes, or until the bread is lightly golden and crisp around the edges.
Step 5: Remove the baking sheet from the oven. Divide the blue cheese evenly among the toasted bread slices.
Step 6: Sprinkle the chopped walnuts over the blue cheese.
Step 7: Return the crostini to the oven and bake for another 2 to 3 minutes, just until the cheese softens slightly and the walnuts become fragrant.
Step 8: Transfer the crostini to a serving platter.
Step 9: Drizzle lightly with maple syrup and finish with freshly ground black pepper.
Step 10: Serve warm.

Serving Suggestion: Serve these crostini warm as an elegant appetizer alongside a holiday cheese board, seasonal salad, or your favourite sparkling beverage.

Why You'll Love It: The creamy, tangy blue cheese, crunchy walnuts, and sweet maple syrup create a delicious balance of savoury, sweet, and nutty flavours in every bite.

IGA Tip: Toast the walnuts in a dry skillet over medium heat for 2 to 3 minutes before assembling the crostini to bring out their flavour. Assemble the crostini shortly before serving so the bread remains crisp.

The combination of blue cheese and walnuts is also commonly used in crostini recipes, with toasted bread providing the crisp contrast to the creamy cheese and nuts.
